Studieren in LuzernThe defining hallmark of Switzerland is its diversity - this is the source of its international reputation and fame. Each valley has its own characteristic architectural style and its own dialect. Each mountain peak offers a fresh perspective. Switzerland is multi cultural in the very sense of the word–combining three major regions and four languages (german, french, italian and romanish) on a very small piece of land at the heart of Europe.Right in the center of Switzerland in the heart of Europe lies the world famous historic town of Luzern. The town has a population of approximately 60,000 and lies at the northern end of the famous lake of the same name (German: Vierwaldstättersee). It is surrounded by hills with an impressive view of the ice-capped peaks of the Alps in the South. Its well-reserved medieval centre dates back to the 8th century A.D. when a small monastery of the order of St. Benedictine was founded at the mouth of the River Reuss, which issues from the lake. It boasts world-famous landmarks such as the Chapel Bridge (Kappelbrücke) and the Water Tower (Wasserturm). Apart from the tourist attractions the town also offers a modern infrastructure with a wide range of cinemas, museums, theatres, restaurants, clubs, and an extensive and well-run public transport system. A major advantage of being in Lucerne is that, lying in the heart of the country, it is conveniently located for travelling and all major places are within approximately half a day‘s journey by train or car. |
